What is the 5-1-1 rule?

A common guide for full-term labor: contractions about 5 minutes apart, each lasting about 1 minute, for at least 1 hour. Your provider may give you different instructions.

When should I call my provider?

Follow your provider's advice. The 5-1-1 pattern is a general sign active labor may be starting — call them or your hospital if you're unsure.
